STATE SENATOR ROBERT NICHOLS RECOGNIZES SADLER'S MARINE AND SPORTING GOODS - JACKSONVILLE FOR OUTSTANDING CONTINUOUS SERVICE IN TEXAS
Jacksonville, Texas––State Senator Robert Nichols of Jacksonville, Texas today recognized Sadler's Marine and Sporting Goods of Jacksonville with a Texas Treasure Business Award decal and certificate from the Texas Historical Commission (THC). The presentation began at 11:00am at the Sadler's showroom at 1914 S. Jackson Street. The Texas Treasure Business Award program pays tribute to businesses that have provided employment opportunities and support to the state’s economy for 50 years or more. Created in 2005 through legislation authored by Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) and sponsored by Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson (R-Waco), the program recognizes well-established Texas businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to the state’s economic growth and prosperity. Senator Nichols said, "I am a supporter of this historic business in Jacksonville and am happy to share this designation with them."
Sadler's Marine was first owned and operated by Elton (Monk) Sadler of Jacksonville, Texas. Driven from Elton's love of working on small engine boat motors and recreational fishing, a business opportunity emerged. Lake Jacksonville was constructed in 1957 to serve as the primary water supply for the City of Jacksonville. While originally a water supply project, it transitioned into a residential and recreational community. The creation of a new lake not only reshaped the environment but also opened the door to a highly promising recreational boating and sporting goods business. In 1959, Elton opened Sadler's Marine and Sporting Goods in Jacksonville along with his wife Elizabeth (Liz) Curl Sadler. At the young age of 19, Elton's son Robert Sadler began working with his dad at the sporting goods store. Robert became the owner of the business in 1970. Like his father before him, Robert (also known as Little Monk) proudly kept the business in the family, continuing a legacy built on tradition and trust. Today, that legacy carries on with the next generation, as his son Ryan Sadler also plays an active role in the family business.
A special decal identifying the business as a Texas Treasure will be publicly displayed at Sadler's Marine and Sporting Goods in Jacksonville at 1914 S. Jackson Street. Consumers will know when they spot the familiar Texas Treasure Business Award icon, they are doing business with a well-established, Texas-owned-and-operated business that has long contributed to job growth, stimulated the local economy, and generated state and local tax revenues.

The city and utility companies are finishing up and hope to have the new boat ramp open sometime this week.

National Night Out 2025 Donation
The Lake Jacksonville Association provided a donation of $500.00 to the Jacksonville Police Department in support of the 2025 National Night Out event. The National Night Out event is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
