2007 flood
Lake residents experienced the ebb and flow of life, literally, when lake levels rose to flood level, receded, and rose again...and again.
In July of 2007, soaked ground and unrelenting rain led to flooding in all areas of East Texas including our own Lake Jacksonville.
The lake rose to its highest point since 1993 as heavy rain came twice within one week. All boathouses and dozens of homes were flooded by the seemingly endless rain.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) set up a field office in Jacksonville to handle the applications from lake residents who received damage from the rising water.
Acknowledging the potential for flooding of the lake, the LJA board continues to be involved in discussions with the City of Jacksonville and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to determine options to more effectively control water levels.
